Alia Farid

Born in Kuwait, 1985 and lives in Kuwait and Puerto Rico

Born in 1985, Alia Farid is a Kuwaiti-Puerto Rican artist who works at the intersection of art and education through the activation of spaces for critical thinking and action. She is an alumna of El Programa de Estudios Independientes (PEI-MACBA, Barcelona) where she completed a Masters in Museum Studies and Critical Theory in 2011, the Visual Arts Program at MIT (Cambridge, Massachusetts) where she obtained a Master in Science in Visual Studies in 2008, and La Escuela de Artes Plásticas de Puerto Rico (Viejo San Juan, Puerto Rico) where she received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2006. In 2009 she was appointed Director of Al Sabah Art & Design in Kuwait, and currently works with the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters under the Heritage and Museums Department particularly on the development of public programs and enhancing cross-institutional relationships. The National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters is a public and governmental cultural organization founded by the State of Kuwait in collaboration with Dar Al Athar Al Islamiyyah.
