Martha Friedman

Born in Detroit, 1975 and lives in Greenpoint, Brooklyn

Martha Friedman is a New York sculptor whose work temporarily focused on the tongue, anthropomorphizing this very necessary muscular organ, which she became interested in after a friend ordered a plate of duck tongues at a Chinese restaurant.
Martha Friedman earned her BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1998 and her MFA from Yale University School of Art in 2003.
