Cynthia García-Leyva

Cinthya García Leyva, born in Mexico City in 1985, is a researcher and cultural manager whose work focuses on interdisciplinary practices and expanded poetics. Her most recent research explores notions of erasure, erosion, residue and rewriting within contemporary textualities. She studied Guitar at the National School of Music and Hispanic Language and Literature at the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters, UNAM. She holds a Master’s degree in Comparative Literature from the same institution and is currently pursuing a PhD.

She has carried out numerous individual and collective interventions in spaces such as the Museo Universitario Arte Contemporáneo, Museo Universitario del Chopo, Radio UNAM, Centro de Cultura Digital, Archivo Diseño y Arquitectura, Centro Cultural de España en México, Fonoteca Nacional, Casa del Lago Juan José Arreola, Universidad del Claustro de Sor Juana, Palacio de Bellas Artes, CENART, Sala de Arte Público Siqueiros, Vox Populi Gallery, Middle Press Studio, among others.

Her essays on sound and experimental poetics have appeared in various publications, and she has presented dozens of papers at national and international forums.

Since 2013 she has been a member of the laboratory for extended literatures and other materialities (lleom), the collective behind “Plataformas de la imaginación: escenarios de la literatura electrónica México 2015”. She was general co-coordinator and programmer of “PoéticaSonora” México in 2016 and 2017. In 2018 she joined the curatorial team of the exhibition “Modos de oír: prácticas de arte y sonido en México at Laboratorio Arte Alameda and Ex Teresa Arte Actual”. In 2019 she curated the Experimental Literatures cycle for the Casa Universitaria del Libro (CASUL).

Between 2017 and 2020 she taught the courses “Politics of the Digital” and “Literary Creation in Digital Media” at CENTRO | Diseño, Cine y Televisión. As a co-founding member, she collaborated from 2016 until January 2020 as head of planning and content for the Programme on Art, Science and Technologies (ACT; UNAM/Secretaría de Cultura). In 2019 she also served as general coordinator of the Max Aub Chair: Transdiscipline in Art and Technology at UNAM’s Cultural Diffusion Office.

Since 2020, she has been the Director of Casa del Lago UNAM.
