Cristóbal Gracia
Born in Mexico City in 1987, Cristóbal Gracia reconfigures historical milestones and social and cultural phenomena through research, appropriation and the reconstruction of official chronicles and urban myths gathered from different parts of the world. His practice focuses on dismantling the ideological and power structures that govern and have shaped the conception of contemporary Western civilisation. Using tools such as humour, fiction, violence, desire and failure, his work seeks to construct baroque systems of disbelief and estrangement in order to generate the spaces and means of production necessary to cultivate diverse subjectivities.
His working process involves various creative agents, with each context of participation, collaboration and production conferring a specific singularity to every project. Gracia tends to explore the tensions that art can generate when working with dichotomies and contradictions belonging to different fields of knowledge; within this dialectical process lies the opportunity to reconfigure life.
He lives and works in Mexico City.
