Artist

Raymond Hains

He was a French photographer and painter. He joined the atelier of sculpture at the School of Fine Arts of Rennes and there met Villeglé. In the decade from the 1940s to the 1960s, he dedicated himself to photography and using different instruments created abstract photographs and works related to the photographic instrument. In 1964 he typographically shattered the text of P. Restany “Il Nouveau Réalisme”. In 1970 he participated in Documenta IV in Kassel with three large matchboxes. Considered one of the leading artists of the Nouveau Réalisme, in the late 1950s his work focused on decollages, a new perceptive approach to reality.
