Curator

Fabiola Iza

Born in Mexico City, 1986 and lives in Mexico City

In her practice, Iza develops exhibitions and editorial projects that seek novel strategies in recent curatorial and artistic practices to potentialize and animate archives, mostly related to the development of historical narratives and national identities. Since 2016, she is con-ducting field research in different cities in Latin America for an investigation on the trans-formation of curatorial practice in contexts of institutional precariousness. Iza was curator and exhibitions coordinator at Casa del Lago (2011-13), an off-campus cultural centre run by the UNAM and, as an editor, she has developed a collection of books on cultural theo-ry published under the independent Taller de Ediciones Económicas’ imprint. Her recent projects and exhibitions include: When the world froze into ghostly skeins (Biquini Wax EPS, Mexico City, upcoming), Espejo negro, elefante blanco (El Cuarto de Máquinas, Me-xico City, 2017), The Dead Gestures – Act 1 (Squash, Mexico City, 2016), Unmapping the Terrain (Banner Repeater, London, 2015), The Lulennial: A Slight Gestuary (Lulu, Mexico City, 2015, co-curator Chris Sharp), A Trip to the Moon (Proyectos Monclova, Mexico City, 2013), Toute la mémoire du monde (Casa del Lago, Mexico City, 2013), among ot-hers. She holds an MA in Visual Cultures from Goldsmiths, University of London and a BA in Art Theory from the Universidad del Claustro de Sor Juana, Mexico City.
