Lars Jan
Born in Cambridge, MA, 1978 and lives in Los Angeles
Lars Jan (b. 1978 Cambridge, MA) is a multidisciplinary artist based in Los Angeles. He received his MFA from CalArts in 2008. Jan is the winner of the 2017 Audemars Piguet Art Commission and his work has been exhibited by The Whitney Museum, Hammer Museum, Guggenheim Museum, ICA Boston, Ringling Museum of Art, Pasadena Museum of California Art, Toronto Nuit Blanche Festival, BAM Next Wave Festival, Sundance Film Festival (New Frontier), Portland Institute of Contemporary Art, and Istanbul Modern. He has held residencies at the MacDowell Colony, Headlands Center for the Arts, and the Princeton Atelier, and has lectured at both Performa and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Jan’s work has been covered extensively, appearing in publications including The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, LA Magazine, Modern Painters, ArtPulse, Bomb Magazine, Interview, The Guardian, The Globe and Mail, Evening Standard, and dozens of others. He is the artistic director of Early Morning Opera, a genre-bending performance + art lab whose works explore emerging technologies, live audiences, and unclassifiable experience. He is the son of émigrés from Afghanistan and Poland, a 2016 YBCA:100 artist, and a TED Senior Fellow
