Artist

Jean-François Le Minh

In his process, Jean Francois navigates the markets of Mexico City, where the coexistence of plastic and organic products becomes the inspiration for a tactile relationship.

A silicone mould may become the next potential tool, or the outline of a pair of kitchen gloves the drawn line that sparks a new painting. A kind of categorisation of the market’s prevailing chaos is required, and upon returning to his studio the canvas becomes the agent of order. Without attempting to name what unfolds on the surface—where forms detach themselves from their origins—the discourse is written through the traces of the process. The return to Ithaca is sensed yet never fulfilled; with each new visit to the market, the ship sets sail once again.
