Joost Vanhaerents, born in Torhout, Belgium, has been involved in the world of art since 1978. He is one of the three collectors behind the Vanhaerents Art Collection, alongside his sister Els and father Walter. The private collection is located in the Dansaert neighborhood of Brussels, spanning 3,500 m², and features contemporary art from 1965 to the present. Open to the public since 2007, the collection is currently exhibited in the form of the Viewing Depot, with the ongoing exhibition “Year of the Dragon”.
Since 2007, the Vanhaerents Art Collection has participated in several significant international exhibitions. In 2015, “Heartbreak Hotel” was presented as part of the Venice Biennale. In 2019, “The Death of James Lee Byars & Zad Moultaka in Dialogue” attracted 130,000 visitors as a collateral event of the Venice Biennale. In 2023, “Au bout de mes rêves” was exhibited at the Tripostal in Lille (6,000 m²), attracting 112,000 visitors over 3.5 months. In 2024, “Boundaries” by Memo Deeds will be featured as part of the Venice Biennale.
