Kiyoto Ota
Kiyoto Ota (1948, Nagasaki, Japan) is a sculptor who has lived and worked in Mexico since 1972. For over 35 years, he served as Professor of Sculpture at the Faculty of Arts and Design, UNAM (National Autonomous University of Mexico), influencing generations of artists. His practice explores the relationship between nature and form, interior and exterior space, and the transformation of matter, often resulting in enigmatic, organic structures that bridge Eastern philosophy and contemporary abstraction.
Ota has presented solo exhibitions at major institutions including the Museo de Arte Moderno (MAM), Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Oaxaca (MACO), Museo de Arte Abstracto Manuel Felguérez, and the Museo Federico Silva de Escultura Contemporánea, among others. His public sculptures are installed in Japan, Spain, and Mexico, and his work is held in prominent collections such as the Nagasaki Prefectural Museum of Art, MAM, and MACO.
