William Klein (New York, 1928 – Paris, 2022) was an American-born photographer, filmmaker, and artist who radically reshaped street photography and fashion imagery. After moving to Paris in the late 1940s, he developed a bold, graphic visual language marked by high contrast, motion blur, and unconventional compositions.
Klein rose to international prominence with his groundbreaking photobook Life Is Good & Good for You in New York (1956) and later built a parallel career in experimental filmmaking. His work challenged traditional aesthetics and documentary conventions, leaving a lasting impact on photography and visual culture.
