Artist

Lena Liv

Born in Leningrad, 1952

Working in a range of mediums –– including photography, works on paper and sculpture –– her pieces capture a timeless essence and leave the viewer with a residue of memories. She constructs her work in the form of questions rather than answers, devising a search with no end, a search for the enigmatic. The unify idea across Liv’s practice could be said to be her fascination with the idea of an archetypal, universal form; that is, a form that is universally understood without explanation.
Her works have been exhibited across the globe, most recently her acclaimed Cathedrals for the Masses was shown at the Centro Pecci, Prato, Italy and the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, Israel in 2009 and 2010, respectively.
Group exhibitions include venues such as the Museum Moderner Kunst, Stiftung Ludwig in Vienna, Australia; and the Kunsthalle Helsinki in Helsinki, Finland and City Gallery Wellington, New Zealand.
