Michele Bubacco
Born in Venice, 1983 and lives in Venice
Michele Bubacco was born in Venice in 1983, where he currently lives and works after spending eight years in Vienna.
Metamorphosis lies at the core of his research: he often starts from existing images – photographs, paintings or found materials – and then transforms them, overwriting and altering their meaning. Painting thus becomes a process of continuous modification, an act of visual improvisation developed around recurring symbols such as chairs, waves, microphones or ice creams, fixed points from which to begin again in order to generate new perceptual shifts.
In recent years he has extended this approach to urban posters, considering them cultural indicators of time and place. Through pictorial layering on posters of exhibitions and events in Venice, he activates a second life cycle of the image, transforming visual communication into a field of experimentation and exchange between public space and pictorial practice.
