Morten Slettemeås
Morten Slettemeås was born in 1975 and grew up in Gvarv, Telemark. He now lives and works in Oslo. He studied at Einar Granum Art School (1996–98) and the Academy of Fine Arts in Oslo (1999–2003).
Slettemeås works with painting that shifts between the figurative and the abstract, drawing on references from art history, contemporary events, and popular culture. By combining his own ideas and experiences with international developments, his work unfolds as a form of personal storytelling. Many of his paintings are inspired by the landscape tradition of Telemark, intertwined with impulses from a globalised world.
Recognised as a resilient colourist, he is known for expressive, vividly coloured paintings, often on a large scale.
He has exhibited at Kunsthall Grenland, Telemark Art Museum, Bomuldsfabriken in Arendal, Lillehammer Art Museum, Haugar Art Museum, Sørlandets Art Museum, Stavanger Art Museum, and the Stenersen Museum in Oslo, as well as Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de San Luis Potosí and Museo de la Chancillería in Mexico. His work is held in the collections of Sørlandets Art Museum, Malmö Art Museum, and the Norwegian Cultural Council, and is represented in private collections in Norway, Denmark, Germany, Spain, Portugal, and Mexico.
