Mohamed Mourabiti

Born in Marrakech, 1968 and lives in Tahannaout, Morocco

Mohamed Mourabiti was born in 1968 in Marrakech. An autodidact artist, he has numerous exhibitions to his credit in Morocco and abroad. For as long as he can remember, Mohamed Mourabiti liked to paint. He left secondary school to learn painting under the art plastic professor’s iron rule of the Lycée Jabar Ibnou Hayane (Casablanca). His work is characterized by a plethora of colors and also by a well-balanced processing of the canvas’ surface. His favourite color, brick red, is derived from Marrakech. In his latest paintings, he moved towards crystal tones. The white color he uses gives a uniquely bright light to his paintings. Mohamed Mourabiti founded an art center called “Al Maqam” in Tahannaout, Morocco. In 2009, he completed an artist residency at the Cite Internationale des Arts in Paris. Mohamed Mourabiti’s work can be found in many private and public collections such as The National Museum of Amman, The FAAP Museum of Sao Paulo, The Sachoua Foundation of London and The Viscusi Anthony Margo Foundation in New York.
