Born in Iran and living in New York, Shirin Neshat is a visual artist working in film, video and photography. Her practice revolves around the contrasts between Islam and the West, male and female, old and new, traditional and modern. Neshat’s works tackles social, cultural and religious codes of the Muslim societies and the female condition in contemporary Islamic societies.
