Lucia Nimcová

Born in Humenne, 1977 and lives in Brussels / Humenne

Nimcova studied at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam, Netherlands. She is a prominent figure of contemporary Slovak photography. For over a decade she has been focusing on archival research of old photography collections, found in the geographical proximity of her hometown Humenné, eastern Slovakia. She is constantly pointing to the 1989 historical milestone, not with the direct reference to the previous regime, but mostly by hinting at the subtle changes in the functionality of the social system in general. She has recently exhibited her works at Albumarte, Rome; BOZAR, Brussels; Galeria Arsenal, Bialystok; Albumarte, Rome; Australian Centre for Photography, Sydney; Nederlands Fotomuseum, Rotterdam; Prague Biennale; Bunkier Sztuki, Krakow; Via Farini, Milan; Utah Museum of Contemporary Arts and the Moscow Museum of Modern Art. Lucia’s videos were recently shown at The Laughing Bell, London; Festival Fotograf, Prague; Filmmuseum, Dusseldorf and Ex Elettrofonica, Milan.
