Ramin Haerizadeh, Rokni Haerizadeh & Hesam Rahmanian
Ramin Haerizadeh, Rokni Haerizadeh and Hesam Rahmanian are known for their immersive, surreal projects, performances, paintings, and animations. Originally from Iran, the artist trio formed their collaborative practice as early as 1999 in Tehran, and it continued to flourish in the UAE where the artists have been residing in self-imposed exile since 2009. The artists work individually and collectively and often incorporate friends and people from different walks of life into their practice. They often refer to their work as a landscape, where the complex nature of processing integrates in a nested system that forms the landscape of their shows.
The artists have exhibited extensively around the world, including important solo exhibitions at The Schirn Kunsthalle (Frankfurt, 2020); the Frye Art Museum (Seattle, 2019); Officine Grandi Riparazioni (OGR) (Turin, 2018); The Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art (MACBA) (2017); the Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) (Boston, 2015); Kunsthalle Zürich (2015); and Den Frie Centre of Contemporary Art (Copenhagen, 2015). In 2022, along with their presentation here at The NYU Abu Dhabi Art Gallery, they will present a site-specific project with OGR Torino during the Venice Biennale.
They have participated in biennials and group exhibitions, such as at Whitechapel Gallery (London, 2022); Microclima (Venice, 2021); the New Museum (New York, 2021); The NYU Abu Dhabi Art Gallery (2021); The 22nd Biennale of Sydney (2020); the inaugural Toronto Biennial of Art (2019); Louisiana Museum of Modern Art (Humleb k, 2019); the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi (2017); the 9th Liverpool Biennial (2016); and the 8th Asia Pacific Triennial for Contemporary Art, the Queensland Art Gallery (Brisbane, 2015).
Their works are held in the collections of The St del Museum (Frankfurt); Le Centre National des Arts Plastiques (Paris); Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) (Los Angeles); Louisiana Museum of Modern Art (Denmark); Frye Art Museum (Seattle); Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences, Powerhouse Museum (Sydney); among others.
Their recent publications include Either He’s Dead or My Watch Has Stopped. Groucho Marx (While Getting the Patient’s Pulse) (Berlin: DISTANZ, 2020), which accompanied their exhibition at The Schirn Kunsthalle; Forgive Me, Distant Wars, For Bringing Flowers Home (Mantua, Corraini Edizioni, 2018), published on the occasion of their show at OGR Torino; and a monograph titled Ramin Haerizadeh Rokni Haerizadeh Hesam Rahmanian (Milano: Mousse Publishing, 2015).
