Berna Reale

Born in Belém, 1953 and lives in Belém, Brazil

Berna Reale studied Art at the Federal University of Pará (Belém, PA) and has been featured in several solo and group exhibitions in Brazil and Europe, including the biennials national representation “So much that it doesn’t fit here“ at 56a Venice Art Biennale (Italy, 2015); the Photography Biennial in Liège (Belgium, 2006); Cerveira Biennial (Portugal, 2005); FotoBienalMasp, MASP (SP, 2013). Featured the solo exhibitions “Vapor”, at Galeria Millan (SP, 2014), and “Vazio de Nós”, at Museu de Arte do Rio (RJ, 2014). Among the group exhibitions, stand out “Singularidades/Anotações – Rumos Artes Visuais 1998-2013”, Itaú Cultural (SP, 2014); “Amazônia – Ciclos da Modernidade”, Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil (RJ, 2012); “From the margin to the edge”, Somerset House (London, 2012).
She won the prizes Marcantonio Vilaça (2015) and Salão Arte Pará, in Belém (PA, 2009), and was selected for “Rumos Visuais – Itaú Cultural” (2012-2013), and for PIPA in 2012 and 2013 (finalist). Over the past few years, she has shifted her attention to violence. Reale became a forensic expert at the Forensics Center of the State of Pará, and experiences crime and social conflict-related issues first-hand, her performances are designed to create thought-provoking noise.
