René Roubìcek & Miluse Roubickovà
René Roubíček (Prague, 1922 – Prague, 2018) is a Czech glassworking artist. He was one of the founding fathers of the European Studio Glass movement – a phenomenon co-pioneered by Czech artists who worked with glass as a medium for sculptural expression.
In a highly original manner, Roubíček explored the most natural glassmaking process: close collaboration with master glassmakers, improvising at the furnace. His monumental glass and metal sculptures earned him international acclaim at Expo ’58 in Brussels and later at the World’s Fairs in Montreal (1967) and Osaka (1970).
He is accompanied by the work of his wife, Miluše Roubíčková (Prague, 1922 – Kamenický Šenov, 2015), whose research focused on the representation of women in art.
