Romeo Gómez López (b. 1991, Mexico City) was raised in the southern neighborhood of Coyoacán and studied Visual Arts at ENPEG “La Esmeralda” in Mexico City and the École Supérieure D’Art et de Design in Tours, France.
His multidisciplinary practice spans sculpture, installations, drawings, robotics, puppetry, and theater performances, creating a dynamic exploration of contemporary social struggles.Drawing on elements of mass culture such as religion, political figures, and science fiction, Gómez López critiques the conservative nature of Contemporary art and the religious structures inherent in capitalist society.
His work confronts the challenges of surviving in a rampant capitalist world, while boldly questioning the dominance of compulsory cisheteronormativity in the arts. Infused with humor and an unapologetically erotic vision, he uses a pornographic imagination to envision resilient alternatives for dissident identities. By focusing on libidinal values and their provocative potential, he transforms desire into a powerful generator of sensibility and critique.
Gómez López is also the co-founder of Salón Silicón, a hybrid gallery and involuntary art collective founded in 2017 to support the work of female artists and LGBTQ+ community members.
Romeo Gómez López lives and works in Mexico City.
