Lorenzo Rudolf
Born in Bern, 1959 and lives in Lugano; Singapore
Lorenzo Rudolf began his career in the art world when he took on the role of Director of Art Basel in January 1991.
He created an entirely new art fair concept and transformed Art Basel from a classical trade show to the flagship of the art world.
It was the first time that an art event,
• consequently built its brand as the quality label of the art market worldwide,
• developed a strategic partnership with a top brand of the financial industry (UBS) and created a new model of co-operation based on mutual support, and
• recognized the art collector and (potential) wealthy art buyer as a crucial client and introduced an extended VIP programme.
Art Basel became the world event of the art scene as well as a unique, international social and lifestyle platform. As the next strategic step, he created and launched Art Basel Miami Beach – the fair’s successful expansion into the increasingly dominating American market.
As a consequence of his successful directorship in Art Basel, the Frankfurt Book Fair, at that time the probably biggest and most influential cultural fair, appointed Lorenzo Rudolf in 2000 as its new Director. After three years in the communication and publishing industry, he returned to the art world.
In 2007, Lorenzo co-founded and directed the first international contemporary art fair in Asia, ShContemporary in Shanghai, China. Understanding that Asia deserves a stronger platform in the international art arena, Lorenzo created Art Stage Singapore in 2010 and the fair has since grown from strength to strength.
Art Stage Singapore has carved its own Asian identity as an international fair with a focus on contemporary Asian art.
