Ruth Gómez

Born in Valladolid, 1976 and lives in Madrid, Spain

Ruth Gómez proposes animated stories that reflect on the nature of the human being and on forms of escape through fantasy. It is an extension of her own experience that could be ours, sometimes becoming shared projections where reality and fiction intermingle. Her images – characterised by dynamism and her personal use of colour – are influenced by classic drawing, Pop art and Japanese anime.

Ruth Gómez has a degree in Fine Arts from the University of Salamanca. She has exhibited individually at the Mário Sequeira gallery in Braga (Portugal); at the Oliva Arauna gallery, La New Gallery and La Juan Gallery in Madrid; Jozsa Gallery in Brussels or in the Espacio Marzana in Bilbao. And in museums such as the MAS in Santander, the CAC in Malaga, the Alcobendas Art Center or the CEART in Madrid, among others. She has participated in international fairs such as Art Dubai, Art Lisboa, PULSE Miami, ARCO Madrid, EXPO Zaragoza, SP-Arte in Sao Paulo, Art Fiera in Bologna, FNB Joburg in Johannesburg or The Armory Show in New York. Her drawings have been shown in museums such as MUSAC in León, DA2 in Salamanca, CAC Málaga, CAAC Sevilla, CAB Burgos, ARTIUM in Vitoria, Lázaro Galdiano in Madrid, MNBA in Buenos Aires, San Diego Museum of Art or MOCA in Seoul. . Also at the Cervantes Institute in Tokyo, Milan, Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Brasilia and Salvador de Bahía, the Círculo de Artes Plásticas in Coimbra and at festivals such as SFIAF in San Francisco, PARALLAX in Belgrade or FIBart in Benicasim.
She has been awarded the Plastic Arts prize from the Spanish Chamber of Commerce in France and received scholarships from the Ministry of Culture at the College of Spain in Paris, MUSAC and others.

She has published several artist books, has been the image of Capital Animal, made a video clip for the Fangoria group, collaborated with the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao and is present in collections such as those of MUSAC, CAC, ARTIUM, the Coca-Cola Foundation or the Queen Sofia. She is the number 1 member of the IAC, Institute of Contemporary Art.
