Nancy Spero (1926 – 2009) was an American visual artist and leading figure of the feminist art movement of the sixties. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, Spero lived for much of her life in New York City. In her paintings she dealt with female sexuality, suffering, the horrors of war, depicting pagan goddesses, Celtic fertility figures, and Amazon warriors.
