Director

Tuukka Laurila

Tuukka Laurila (born in Basel, grew up in Helsinki, and based in Paris since 2013) is the Founder & Director of The Community, a multidisciplinary, new-generation art institution. Established in 2016 as an art space on Rue du Château d’Eau, The Community has evolved into an independent art centre in the Pantin neighborhood. Laurila is also the Co-Founder of The Think Tank, a strategy and creation bureau that advises luxury brands and cultural organizations on art and cultural development, positioning, and programming.
His curatorial ethos is reflected in selected exhibitions such as “Houses of Tove Jansson” (2023), a large retrospective exploring the prolific life and career of the late Finnish artist and writer Tove Jansson, widely known as the creator of the Moomins. Another notable project is “AllTogether,” an exhibition series that traveled during the 2022-23 biennium to Venice, Paris, and New York, showcasing for the first time an extensive outlook on the Tom of Finland Foundation’s permanent collection, one of the largest queer-art collections in the world.
In October 2024, his latest endeavour, the inaugural edition of “The Salon by NADA and The Community” will debut in the 10th arrondissement of Paris. This new invitational art fair will bring together the best of contemporary art from NADA’s network of galleries and The Community’s network of non-profit arts organizations, coalescing in four days of programming at the intersection of art, music, fashion, and publishing.
