Maria Chiara Valacchi

Maria Chiara Valacchi is an art critic and independent curator based in Milan. In 2010, she founded the non-profit space Cabinet, a project focused on the “double show” format and on the mid-career art scene, developing a curatorial practice centred on the dialogue between painting and other media. Since the same year, she has been involved in the programming of Studiolo, a Milan gallery dedicated to promoting emerging Italian and international artists.

Over the course of her career, she has curated more than 200 exhibitions in both private and institutional contexts, alongside participation in residency programmes and the direction of the “Talk” and “Visiting Curators” formats for the Art Verona fair.

In parallel, she works in publishing as a writer and curator: she is guest curator of the Art section for elledecor.it and collaborates with the New York-based magazine Artforum. Her contributions have appeared in numerous publications, including Corriere della Sera, Il Fatto Quotidiano, Flash Art, Arte e Critica, Muse, Inside, Arte Mondadori and Playboy. Within this context, she also edited the first volume dedicated to the painter Pierpaolo Calzolari, La pittura è femmina, published by Postmedia Books.

Among her forthcoming projects is the curatorship of the programme at Palazzo Irreale, an exhibition platform of the Bosca family in Canelli, Monferrato.
