Zhang Zikang currently serves as deputy director of the National Art Museum of China. Prior to joining the museum, he was deputy director of the Cultural Bureau of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, director of the Culture and Art Publishing House, director of the Communications Department in the Art Research Institute of China, director of the Research Center at the China National Academy of Art, deputy director of the Research Institute of Contemporary Chinese Arts, and director of the Today Art Museum. Zhang was editor-in-chief of Oriental Art and Art Today magazines. He also served as deputy director of the National Art Museum Professionals Committee and deputy director of the Experimental Art Committee of China Artists Association. Since 1996 Zhang has been instrumental in the publication of thousands of award-winning visual art books. He has also organized a number of important exhibitions in China and abroad. He has published several books, including Art Museums, Cities Built on Culture, and Cross-disciplinary Survival, as well as hundreds of articles on art theories and criticism. His paintings have been widely exhibited in a number of important academic exhibitions in China as well as other countries.
