Cannibalism and modernity Brazilian Art in the Fadel Collection. 1908-1979

This exhibition provides an overview of the various modern movements linked to the cultural construction of Brazil, to the beginnings of contemporary art in the country. The exhibition consists of more than 160 works of Hecilda and Sérgio Fadel, one of the most important and comprehensive collection of Brazilian art.
With paintings, sculptures, installations, graphic works and drawings, the exhibition is organized chronologically into three modules, which are divided thematically into different nuclei. The review covers the first modernism in Brazil, the relationship between indigenous roots and international modernization and break with the modern, including experiences to contemporary.
The exhibition, curated by Victoria Giraudo, includes works by artists such as Aleijadinho, Belmiro de Almeida, Anita Malfatti, Tarsila do Amaral, Vicente do Rego Monteiro, Emiliano Di Cavalcanti, Cícero Dias, Candido Portinari, Lasar Segall, Maria Martins, Waldemar Cordeiro, Lygia Clark, Hélio Oiticica, among many others.
The National Art Museum and the Malba / Malba come together to exhibit for the first time in Mexico this representative selection of works of Brazilian art scene of the twentieth century.
