Walter De Maria: Truck Trilogy

“The Truck Trilogy” by Walter De Maria, hosted at Dia:Beacon, was begun in 2011 and completed after the artist’s death; the installation consists of three Chevrolet pickup trucks, deprived of all the supplemental details; on their flatbeds some polished-stainless-steal rods have been installed. The entire setting mixes the elegant lines of the typical American mid-century industrial design with the geometrical ones which characterised most of De Maria’s practice.

“The Truck Trilogy” is part of the year of celebrations in honour of the artist, opening on the fortieth anniversary of renown works such as “The Lightning Field”, “The New York Earth Room” and “The Vertical Earth Kilometer”, each commissioned by Dia and completed in 1977.
