Sophie Jung

Born in Luxembourg, 1982 and lives in Basel and London

Sophie Jung’s work revolves around the awe of unstable semiotics. With her pro– and prepositional sculptures, she addresses the earnest and often absurd desperation with which wobbly concepts are packed into words, objects or facial expressions, shifting their assumed meaning from work to word to sentence to song. Jung urges the politics behind the fragility of meaning on with a mystic existentialism that barely distinguishes between media, aiming at a wholistic something, always just about to crack or crack up.
