The Berggruen Institute Europe – Palazzo Diedo
Opened in 2024, Palazzo Diedo is Venice’s first major new space dedicated to contemporary art in over a decade. An exhibition venue of Berggruen Arts & Culture, it was established to support contemporary artists while fostering dialogue between past and present, and between Eastern and Western artistic traditions.
The permanent collection features site-specific commissions by 11 internationally acclaimed artists: Urs Fischer, Piero Golia, Carsten Höller, Ibrahim Mahama, Mariko Mori, Sterling Ruby, Jim Shaw, Hiroshi Sugimoto, Aya Takano, Lee Ufan, and Liu Wei.
Palazzo Diedo aims to be an active contributor to Venice’s cultural landscape by hosting permanent installations created specifically for its spaces, alongside performances, symposia, and film screenings. From 2026, it will also host an artist residency programme designed to promote artistic creativity in Venice through direct collaboration with skilled craftspeople working in traditional local techniques such as glassmaking, shipbuilding, textiles, ceramics, porcelain, and iron forging.
