Magazzino
Founded in Rome in 1997
Since 1997 Magazzino has supported and promoted research within the field of contemporary art, working directly with artists, critics and curators. One of the gallery’s main aims is focused on the representation of young, emerging artists such as Domenico Mangano, Alessandro Piangiamore, Mircea Cantor as well as artists exhibiting in Rome for the first time, such as Atelier Van Lieshout, Jonas Dahlberg, Jan Fabre, Armin Linke and Pedro Cabrita Reis.
Another principle activity of Magazzino is the organization of exhibitions conceived and curated specifically for the gallery space. Beginning in 2002 until 2006, curator Cloe Piccoli has organized a series of exhibitions entitled “Other Voices, Other Rooms – Artists’ Environments” which investigates the current practice of many contemporary artists working within various architectural environments, or curator Maria Rosa Sossai who has organized the exhibition cycle “Double Vision” in 2004-2005. In other several occasion, Italian and international curators were invited to curate an exhibition for the gallery such as Lorand Hegyi, Vita Zaman, Lorenzo Bruni and Francesco Stocchi. These occasions enriched the gallery’s activities and have connoted Magazzino as one of the leading galleries in Rome, also in regards to research, throughout the years of its existence.
More recently, the gallery has developed several projects with its artists, showcased in the most important national and international exhibitions, through the economic and organizational support to large-scale productions and projects. Listed below is a selection of relevant and recent examples of projects carried out by the gallery:
