Gallery 55

Belonging to the 1st generation of Shanghai’s new galleries scene, Gallery 55 started in 2005 at M50 Art Zone which soon became the city’s contemporary art centre.

Gallery 55 discovered and staged the debut exhibitions for young Chinese rising talents such as: Hu Qingtai, Li Binyuan, Liu Weiwei, etc. International artists like Noritoshi Hirakawa have found their platform here.

In 2013, a non-profit oriented initiative “yellow.ants.art.lab” started to offer focused projects of installations, sculptures, video works, and wall pieces etc. Gallery 55 has earned a reputation for being open to unconventional artistic experiments and creative proposals over the past 11 years.

In addition to its regular collaborations with renowned institutions and major private collections, Gallery 55 was selected for participation at Art Basel Hong Kong in 2014 and 2015.
