Located in Altkirch, near Basel and Freiburg im Breisgau, CRAC Alsace is housed in a Wilhelminian building constructed in 1889, which formerly served as the local high school. The centre was established at the beginning of the 1990s by an artists’ association that repurposed the premises for artistic use.
CRAC Alsace is a contemporary art centre dedicated to experimentation and creation. It supports artistic production through a programme of exhibitions, residencies, publications, and outreach initiatives, aiming to facilitate encounters between artists, the public, and artworks. The institution is supported in its missions by the Ville d’Altkirch, the Collectivité européenne d’Alsace, the Région Grand Est, and the Ministère de la Culture.
