Kunstmuseum Basel | Gegenwart

Established in 1980, it was one of the first venues entirely dedicated to contemporary art.

Museum für Gegenwartskunst (Museum of Contemporary Art) is a joint endeavour of the Emanuel Hoffmann Foundation, the Christoph Merian Foundation and the Canton of Basel-Stadt.

Focal points of the collection include the work of Joseph Beuys, Bruce Nauman, Rosemarie Rockel, Jeff Wall, and some American art (Robert Gober, Elizabeth Peyton, Matthew Barney). Alongside rotating collection exhibitions, Museum für Gegenwartskunst hosts regular lectures and discussions on modern art topics, guided tours and viewings.
