Museo Palacio de Bellas Artes
Founded in 1934, Palacio de Bellas Artes was the first art museum in Mexico. The Museo currently exhibits the work of seven national muralists created between 1928 and 1963, organizes and manages an intense program of temporary exhibitions all year round.
The Museo del Palacio de Bellas Artes, established in 1934 as the Museo de Artes Plásticas, is Mexico’s first art museum. Originally focused on Spanish, colonial Mexican, and 19th-century art, it evolved in 1947 to include educational programs and publications, becoming the Museo Nacional de Artes Plásticas.
Renamed the Museo Nacional Moderno in 1958, it aimed to position Mexico as an art hub in Latin America. In 1968, it adopted its current name, showcasing a blend of historical and contemporary art.
The museum permanently exhibits 17 iconic murals by Mexican artists (1928–1963) and hosts renowned temporary exhibitions. It also publishes significant art research and offers diverse activities for all audiences.
