MAST – Museo Archeologico San Teodoro
The MAST – Museo Archeologico di San Teodoro, located in the Niuloni area, collects and preserves historical evidence from the surrounding territory, drawing primarily on artefacts recovered from the seabed along the coastline and on donations from the local community.
The museum covers the historical periods spanning from the Carthaginian and Roman Republican era through to the modern age, encompassing the long Roman, medieval and Byzantine periods. Particular attention is given to the Byzantine presence, which has left significant traces in the history and identity of the San Teodoro area. The collections include notable material such as amphorae, fragments of Roman weaponry, coins, and finds related to the Baia Salinedda shipwreck, offering concrete evidence of the historical evolution of the coastline.
The collection spans a broad chronological range: from the Carthaginian and Roman Republican period (350 BC – 27 BC), through the Roman Imperial era and the Baia Salinedda shipwreck (27 BC – 476 AD), to the medieval period (476 AD – 1492) and the early modern age (1492 – 1789).
Reopened to the public in January 2025, the museum now also functions as an active cultural centre, with free admission and a programme of events, screenings and community activities.
