Marina Abramović: 7 Deaths of Maria Callas
The new work by Marina Abramović premieres in Munich, inspired by the life and work of the Greek soprano Maria Callas
Artist Marina Abramović brings her new piece to the stage of the Bayerische Staatsoper, in Munich. “7 Deaths of Maria Callas” is a music-theatre work, combining elements of video, performance, and opera. Inspired by the brilliant figure of Maria Callas, Abramovic recreates on stage seven iconic death scenes from the soprano’s most famous roles; the work is a homage to the iconic work and to the private life of Maria Callas, who has always fascinated the Serbian artist.
The opera is accompanied by the new music by the composer Marko Nikodijević; Abramovic directs, designed the stage, and stars in it, along with the actor Willem Dafoe.
