Do Ho Suh: Korridor
At his first solo exhibition in Denmark, artist Do Ho Suh presents one of his renown structures made of fabric, titled “Korridor“. The installation consists of a 30-metre-long colourful sculpture made of eight hand-sewn fabric passages: visitors can walk through it from one end to the other, fully experiencing the space. The corridor, created using traditional Korean sewing techniques, reproduces faithfully and at full size the homes in which the artist has lived, respectively in Seoul, Berlin and London.
The movement from one section of the installation to the other becomes a metaphor for artist’s own journey from one country to another, stepping through different phases of life. At the same time, the work carries an universal meaning, symbolizing the common experience of leaving one home and moving to another somewhere else. This message also relates with the increasing phenomenon in contemporary society of migration which entails big amounts of people which move away from their original homes.
