Chloe Wise: Extrasensory
This exhibition marks the first major institutional presentation in Switzerland by New York-based artist Chloe Wise. Curated by Samuel Leuenberger, it introduces an expansive film project within a large-scale immersive installation. The work explores how subjectivity is constructed through images, symbols, and cultural codes, shifting the artist’s focus toward the conditions of perception. It examines how meaning is produced at the intersection of sensory experience, belief systems, and narrative structures.
Figures evoking supernatural or technological entities appear as unstable constructs, focusing on moments where language and perception falter to maintain ambiguity as a form of resistance. At the centre of the show is a multichannel video installation across a constellation of large screens. Seven archetypes emerge as embodiments of metaphysical phenomena, blurring cultural archetypes and ideological projections. The films draw on the iconography of painting and the aesthetics of late 20th-century mass media to critique persuasion and fantasy.
