One Month after Being Known in That Island
The long shadow of colonial rule interpreted by Caribbean contemporary artists
Kulturstiftung Basel H. Geiger presents its inaugural exhibition, co-produced in collaboration with the Caribbean Art Initiative and curated by Yina Jiménez Suriel and Pablo Guardiola.
“One Month after Being Known in That Island” takes place in the foundation’s new exhibition space in a renovated former factory in central Basel. The eleven featured artists, stemming from different Caribbean regions, presents varied positions about cultural emancipation and the today long influence of colonial rule. The works on view include site-specific and commissioned new presentations, along with video installations. The exhibition is accompanied by a rich cultural programme featuring films, talks, and podcasts, as well as weekly public tours.
