A selection of pictures witnesses the boom of industrialization in the 19th century

The small exhibition at Historisches Museum Basel presents pictures from the Ruth and Peter Herzog collection dating from 1840 to 1910. During that period, photography recorded the boom of industrialization, with its new and modern cathedrals, and the combination of old and new. “The Medieval and the Modern. Photographs from the Ruth and Peter Herzog collection” opens as a result of the cooperation the Basel museums and the «Jacques Herzog und Pierre de Meuron Kabinett, Basel».
More treasures from the collection are exhibited in the two concurrent exhibitions “The Incredible World of Photography” at Kunstmuseum Basel, and the “Oriental Grand Tour” at the Antikenmuseum.
