Your Ambivalence

The exhibition “Your Ambivalence” explores how contemporary societal, political, and emotional contradictions persist despite a widespread desire for certainty. Throughout psychological history, ambivalence was initially viewed as a negative state of conflicting emotions causing inner conflict. However, since the 20th century, art and literature have used this state to create a productive tension that exposes hidden power dynamics and encourages nuanced thinking, shifting the perception of ambivalence from a pathological symptom to an essential component of subjective experience.

While art of the 1960s and 1970s often polarised oppositions such as man and woman or nature and technology to deconstruct them, contemporary artistic practices approach these binaries as performative and fluid. The body is presented as a temporary social construct that resists rigid classification. The exhibition celebrates the engagement with ambivalent images and sculptures to establish a space for reflection on individual perception of the world.
