Candice Breitz: Sex Work
in dialogue with works by William N. Copley from the Collection Frieder Burda

The exhibition Sex Work occurring at Salon Berlin, features works bu the South-African artist Candice Breitz in dialogue with pieces by William N. Copley, from the collection Frieder Burda. Both the artistic positions oppose to the discrimination of sex workers but from two different point of views.

While Copley was fascinated by these figures, portraying them as erotic and faceless nudes still dominated my a male gaze, Breitz, on the contrary, return them a voice. In her video installations and poster pieces, the sex workers present the situation from their perspective but at the same time allude to the utopia of a less patriarchal and less violent future.
