Tarek Atoui: Cycles in 11

The exhibition explores experimental and innovative musical forms offering its audience the chance to discover the field of instrument-making, compositional structure and musical collaboration. The project is the result of the artist’s 11 years of work during which he investigated different methods of listening, composition and performance. The artist investigated music history and tradition and collaborated with different experts. As a result, the artist’s collective project WITHIN, which grew out of years of work with Deaf culture, functions as a tool to investigate how deafness can influence the way sound performance, space and instrumentation are understood. During the whole duration of the exhibition a series of live performances by Atoui and a series of guest collaborators will take place. At the same time, SAF offers residency opportunities to musicians, composers and artists who are invited to develop or produce new work. Educational activities will be held in a temporary sound lab in Sharjah’s east coast city of Kalba.
