Accelerate Your Escape: Gary Hume Explores the Hiscox Collection
A selection of artworks made by Gary Hume spans the last fifty years of contemporary art history
British artist Gary Hume was called to select a group of works by representative artists from the Hiscox Collection. The pieces on view span the last five decades of contemporary art and respond to the Gallery’s ongoing commitment to give visibility to rarely seen public and private collections. Taking the title from a work by Haim Steinbach, Hume interprets art as a mean to accelerate the escape from reality, conceiving an exhibition path to accompany viewers into the worlds imagined by the artists.
These include Etel Adnan, Darren Almond, Edward Burtynsky, Keith Coventry, Willie Doherty, Nan Goldin, Noemie Goudal, Howard Hodgkin, David Hockney, Alex Katz, Simon Keenleyside, Ron Nagle, Yves Oppenheim, Victor Pasmore, Tal R, Eduardo Paolozzi, Kathleen Ryan, Thomas Ruff, Prem Sahib, Haim Steinbach and Alison Wilding.
