Anna Weyant

Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza, Paseo del Prado, 8

The Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum presents the first monographic museum exhibition by the Canadian artist Anna Weyant. Organised in collaboration with the artist and curated by Guillermo Solana, the show runs as part of the programme based on the Blanca and Borja Thyssen-Bornemisza collection and features around twenty recent works.

Weyant’s paintings engage in a subtle dialogue with historical art, drawing on sources from the Baroque to the early 20th century—periods well represented in the museum’s holdings. Selected works from the permanent collection are displayed alongside her paintings, highlighting shared themes and visual resonances.

Known for her figurative style, Weyant portrays young women in ambiguous, emotionally charged settings. Her compositions hover between the familiar and the uncanny, shaped by traditional techniques yet informed by contemporary culture. With echoes of interwar surrealism and nods to modern American aesthetics, her works explore identity, vulnerability, and the quiet tension of suspended moments.

The exhibition offers a focused look at an emerging voice in painting, bridging classical sensibilities with a distinctly modern psychological edge.
