La Casa Encendida hosts Poems I Will Never Release by Chiara Fumai.

A retrospective that aims to show what the artist liked to call her “unwork”, a ten-year production that goes far beyond the performances for which she was best known. Her work is characterised by its mixture of fact and fiction, concepts that intermingle and coexist in her mainly performance-based work. In addition to her performance practice, the artist’s recurring themes include feminism, the Italian autonomy movement and the inspiration of 19th century pseudo-scientific fairground shows, among others.

In her performances, Fumai has assumed the identities of various marginalised historical figures, her heroines, hidden personalities that she has brought to life in an attempt to recover narratives excluded or forgotten by history. By bringing them to the stage, the artist has tried to convince viewers to embrace her creed, the “Church of Chiara Fumai“.
