Ahmed Umar: Truth Bears No Scandal

Museo Universitario del Chopo, C. Dr. Enrique González Martínez 10-P. B, Sta María la Ribera, Cuauhtémoc

Ahmed Umar’s (Sudan, 1988) first solo museum exhibition, showcases works from 2018-2024. Umar explores identity, religion, love, belonging, and cultural values through photography, video, performance, ceramics, and installation. A political refugee in Norway since 2008, Umar draws on personal experiences to address suppression, alienation, and liberation, reflecting on queer representation and creating hidden languages.

The exhibition includes “Talitin” (2023-2024), a video reclaiming the Sudanese bridal dance as a queer celebration. “Carrying the Face of Ugliness” (2018) features portraits exploring violence against Sudanese LGBT+ people. “Truth Bears No Scandal” (2024) uncovers queer love in Sudanese songs, blending music, drag, and cultural history.
