Donación de la familia Maples Arce Vermeersch
The National Institute of Fine Arts, through the National Museum of Art, pays tribute to the Maples Arce Vermeersch family, who in the years 1985, 1992 and 2015 made significant donations of pieces including oil paintings, watercolors, drawings, gouaches, plates, prints, photographs and furniture.
With a comprehensive view and in full compliance with its historic grant program, the National Art Museum offers the general public and specialist knowledge, a selection of works that allow delve into the significant personality of the poet, writer and collector Manuel Maples Arce, born in Papantla Veracruz on May 1, 1900, and died in Mexico City in 1981.
Manuel Maples Arce was head and leader of the Movement Estridentista (1921-1927), a group that proposed an aesthetic transformation to the realm of everyday life from the creation of the literati, poets and artists: Germán List Arzubide (1898-1998), Salvador Gallardo (1893-1981), Arqueles Vela (1899-1977), Miguel Aguillon Guzman (1898-1995), Ramón Alva de la Canal (1892-1985), Fermin Revueltas (1901-1935) and Germán Cueto (1893-1975 ). The estridentistas achieved one of the most important moments for the avant-garde of the early twentieth century, not only in the national context, also international impact.
The Museum thanks especially to the Mtra. Mireya Maples Vermeersch for continuing with the aim and objective of their parents to leave the work to the people of Mexico, who has worked as an integral part of the curatorial team, especially with the theme of the advice of the project.
